The Cullinan basement was too much fun to build. They have an exercise area, indoor sporting area, and recording studio. We love how unique this basement is and that it is such a fun place for the kids to go – especially in the snowy winters.

Welcome to the Clock Basement! This basement is the perfect basement for entertaining guests! Complete with a game room, billiards room, large kitchenette / wet bar, dining, living area, bedroom, and bathroom, their guests will never want to leave! We love the open feel this whole basement has, with the bedroom and bathroom off in their own private nook. The arches give each room a distinct place, but keeps everyone connected regardless of what room they are actually in. The platform that the dining area is in is great for being able to eat, play cards / board games, and still be able to watch the big game or movie. The central location of the large wet bar allows for guests to eat and drink at the bar while still being involved in whatever game of their choosing – billiards, ping pong, or just watching the game on the large projector screen.

This basement finish has some really cool features that were important for the homeowners to have.

The living room has a built in entertainment center, and the library has two barn doors at the entry. The homeowners have a quilting business, so it was important to have a room to hold their quilting machine. The best part is, this room doubles as a bedroom! This basement has a wonderful open floorplan. When you step into the basement, you have the living room on the right with a custom built in entertainment center, a game area for the kids behind the couch, and a wetbar. The wetbar has some glass cabinets to show off their glasses and bottles, a dishwasher and a full size refrigerator. This is the perfect place to send the kids on those rainy summer days, or snowy holidays. On the other side of the basement, you will find two bedrooms and a bathroom. The bathroom has a custom pan and bench seat. You don’t want to miss out on seeing this open, functional floorplan!

This basement is a walkout with some great features! It has a billiards room, theater room, two bedrooms, and a gorgeous bathroom with custom walk in shower. There is also crown molding throughout, which really is a beautiful accent in this walkout basement.

It has a nice entry area at the base of the stairs where you can either go into the bedroom or entertainment room. The entertainment room can easily be closed off by the beautiful, custom barn doors. These barn doors have glass windows on the top to let a little light through.

The entertainment area has a theater room and billiards room. You can shut the blinds and have a dark theater with the awesome projector and screen the homeowner had installed. Wouldn’t you love to watch a movie down here! Or, you can open up the blinds, play a game of pool, and turn the big game on. Such a fun way to combine the billiards room and home theater.

There is a beautiful bedroom with large windows in the back that the homeowners are using as a sitting room/multi-purpose room right now. We love the way the homeowner designed the media closet in the billiards room to open up into the bedroom closet so that he has easy access to all of the wires in there.

The bathroom in this basement is one you are going to be incredibly envious of. They have an incredible walk in shower with a barrel ceiling,floor to ceiling tile work, rain head shower head, and a bench seat. We love this custom shower!

The second bedroom has access to the bathroom – which is super nice and convenient for guests – and a ceiling fan.

The homeowner also has an incredible workshop set up in his unfinished storage. What a great way to utilize that space!

This is simply a basement that you have to see to believe! They have a huge playroom for all of the kids toys, game room for the adult toys (including a shuffle board table, poker table, and billiards table!), living room, wet bar, home theater, bedroom, and bathroom. The stain work is absolutely gorgeous throughout the basement, including the full cased windows and all trim work, wood beams across the ceiling, and barn doors leading into the theater room. The wet bar has a gorgeous heavy bar bullnosing with custom wood top. The bathroom has a spacious custom shower with a beautiful euro door and bench seat. You truly must see this basement to believe it!

This basement is perfect for entertaining and hosting guests! It has a game area, wet bar, living room, bedroom, and bathroom. We love the veneer stone accents the homeowner selected throughout the basement- it really brings it all together. The wet bar is the center piece of this basement. With glass cabinets, a TV, veneer stone, and the custom wood top with heavy bar bullnosing, it truly is one of a kind! There are also beautiful built in shelves in the living room that tie in great with the custom bookcase door that you would never know leads to the unfinished storage.

You know what I love about starting a new year? Resolutions. I love to challenge myself. I really call resolutions “goals”. I know in all likelihood, I’m probably not going to 100% complete all of them. But, I stick to them and if I mess up once, I don’t just give up, I keep going. It’s like dieting. If you mess up one day, do you completely give up on the diet altogether? No way! Just call it a cheat day and continue the diet the next day.

One of my favorite goals to set is to get organized. Yes, I am a little OCD. Everything has a place. And yes, I find joy in organizing things. What better way to start the new year than to get your office space organized and functional as part of your basement finishing project?!

Here are some of my necessities to having a good, functional basement office space:

Natural Light

I like a lot of natural light everywhere in my home. Although I know that is not always possible (especially in basements), I recommend trying to place your office in a room with at least 1 window (a big one if you can!).

A Bookshelf

No only can you store books on this, but also decorations! Put up your trophies and awards, pictures of friends and family, little nic-nacs. Whatever helps motivate you to work, or makes you happy, put it up!

Clean Desk

Don’t clutter your desk. Just put the essentials on it- computer, lamp, 1 picture, pencil holder. Everything else can go in the drawers/cabinets. If your desk is just a table, make sure to get a bookshelf or chest of drawers that will match nicely, and keep it close by. You can always put a shelf behind your desk that can hold file folders if you need those.

Big, Comfy Chair

Sometimes you just need to take a break and relax. 10 minutes to chill, close your eyes, and breathe, and then you’ll be ready to get back to work. Just don’t give in to the urge to never leave the chair.

Filing System

Not only does your work stuff need to be organized, but so does your personal life. Maybe your office is simply to keep track of your personal life. My favorite system for filing all of our important information can be found by clicking here.

Remember, it’s going to take time to get organized. It doesn’t just happen overnight. Be ready to dedicate several hours, maybe even a weekend (or two or three!) to getting your life organized. Don’t be discouraged by all of the work to do, be encouraged by the progress you’re making, and what it’s going to look like when it’s complete! BIC just completed our basement and they did a great job. They finished on time, within budget, and it looks amazing. At the beginning, Patrick, Scott, and Eddie confirmed every inch of where walls were being built, the way each door was going to swivel, and even gave some nice tips on ways we could improve by maximizing our finished sqft. Eddie communicated every day what was going on and was super responsive to all of our questions. Out of the four quotes we received, they were the least pushy and we felt very comfortable with all the employees we met. If I ever move to a house without a finished basement, we will definitely do business with them again.

BIC was hands down the best company we have ever worked with. My husband and I do not have enough good things to say about BIC and the staff through BIC. Patrick was our first point of contact, and we were immediately sold given his friendly and professional demeanor. Scott then worked with us to design the layout. Scott was immensely patient and flexible with us as we changed our minds several times and he made our vision become a reality! We then had Eddie assigned as our project manager, who was outstanding. Eddie was on top of every single request we made, was also patient with us, and his communication with us made our lives so much easier. He touched base with us every single week to give us updates as to where the project was at and what was coming up. We were never confused as to the status given his clear communication. If we ever needed anything changed or addressed Eddie would get back to us immediately with a clear resolution or explanation. I wish I could give BIC Construction 500 stars! We received several quotes from several other contractors, but something in our gut told us not to move forward with them--either we got weird vibes or we didn't trust their capabilities. Plus, we had heard so many negative stories from neighbors about contractors up-charging and taking way longer to finish the basement than the original estimate. But we wanted to get our basement finished, so we went online and did some research. When I saw the 5-star rating for BIC Construction I was a bit skeptical--are these reviews real? Are they really a 5-star company? Well, after hiring them and letting them finish my basement, I can confirm from personal experience that BIC Construction is indeed a 5-star company. I called and spoke to Emiko who was warm and friendly and ready, able and willing to answer all of my preliminary questions. We moved forward with booking the consultation and spoke with Scott who walked us through the design/estimate. After speaking with Scott, we knew that moving forward with them as our contractor was the right choice...there was no gut feeling telling us to run away. We felt confident that we were dealing with good people and that we were placing our basement into good hands. But the absolute best part of our experience was working with our project manager, Sara Bandoni! She is such an asset to this company. She is positive, upbeat, personable and incredibly responsive! She gets things done, she makes sure to answer all of our questions and she is super customer oriented. She was a wonderful partner to our family throughout the entire process and made it such a great (and fun!) experience. So thank you Sara for being awesome! Overall: The price was reasonable. There was no scope creep or increase in cost without our written approval--and only for additional changes that we specifically asked for or wanted. The quality of work was amazing. The subcontractors/trades were professional and respectful. I have nothing negative to say (and I am a tough person to please!). So if you're on the fence, then I strongly recommend that you go with BIC Construction. And for the record, I was not paid a penny for this review. I am happy to share my experience with others in order to support the success of a wonderful business.

BIC was amazing. We got about 6 different quotes for finishing our basement and not one of them was as thorough as BIC and fair in cost. They do a 3D walk through so you can really get a feel for what your finished product will be and make changes where you see fit. The crews were great and Jay our project manager was the best communicator and always as friendly as could be. We were always in the loop of what was going on. I can't recommend this company enough!

Having just finished our basement, I can now say that BIC is top notch. In this day and age of shady tradesman and contractors it was nice to know I could TRUST BIC. From the start of premeasures all the way through the project, Patrick and Sara where amazing to work with. We received a daily message from Sara with the plan for the day, along with timely updates on changes. The trades that BIC uses which have been in partnership for 15-20 years are very clean, respectful, and do great work. I would HIGHLY recommend giving BIC the opportunity to finish your basement.

Absolutely Amazing. As each phase of the project was completed, I was thoroughly impressed at the professionalism, excellence, knowledge, detail, and care that was given to the work. I can't say enough how exceptionally good the crews were who did the framing, drywall, electrical, heating, plumbing, painting, and everything else. They were all top-drawer in their craft. My dad was in construction and while I don't know a lot, I do recognize a job done correctly and with pride of workmanship and these guys were the best. Scott, owner of BIC, prepared a great design layout with utmost functionality yet creativity and beauty including inset doors and special features that gave the basement class and personality. All my friends are saying I should just move into the basement. Chris, also at BIC, was great in doing all the installs that take specialized knowledge such as electric fireplace install. He even fixed the lock on my door. Jay was always willing to help with anything I needed and his infectious personality always brightened my day. It is clear, he really cares about the company and the clients. Patrick was the first person I met. He was working another job when I stopped and asked about the company. He was extremely informative and I was prompted to contact Scott. Sara also was a liaison on the job from start to finish and she also did some really nice work on a number of punch list items. Overall, I never once had to worry whether the work would not be done well or on time. It is truly rare these days to see any company offer this kind of professionalism and customer care as BIC did. Five stars doesn't cut it.
